Morph – At what stage does it become Stealing?

Okay a few days ago we posted about Nikita and her “morphs” and a lot of people had various comments both good and bad.

We also got whispered about this guy also doing “morphs” but basically stealing copyrighted digital art and pasting SL heads on them. Whenever he is confronted he simply just deletes the comments. He tried to backtrack and give credit but most of the ones he credited were the wrong artist. 90% of his photos can be reverse imaged searched to the original.
See some few examples.

The big question still remains at what stage does a morph become stealing, because looking at these photos, he gives credit to the original artist which might have actually happened after been confronted a lot of times, but still the watermarks from the photos disappears .Those that makes his photos qualified or accepted?

  1. Morphs are shit! Any respectable long time or short time artist in SL who bust there ASSES to light..spend time with the client /respect them and master the world SL offers, is the “real artist” Just because you can slap a picture (and I can do a morph blind folded) on top of a picture makes you a cheater we all leaned that in school! You’re cheating the art. And great that you convinced some dumb ass to buy your 2nd grade tracing. Whoopty frickin do! The real crime is these ppl want to lump themselves in with those who work really hard at what they do to be creative and ORIGINAL!

  2. Ugh this girl again? She ass kisses enough of the people who have made it on Flickr that she will survive like a cockroach. She will play victim/cutesy and they will feel sorry for her and tell her it is ok and she will keep riding coattails. Pathetic, but you go girl! We have seen other steal people’s SL work and claim it is theirs and the outrage is real, so not sure why she gets a pass. I will chalk it up to posting RL pics that scream I’m desperate for attention, consummate ass kissing, and reposting work of actual talented artists who use her as a model to make it look like she has talent. She actually gives them credit there, so obviously she knows the difference between right and wrong. The poster above is right, it doesn’t take much talent to morph avatars on artistic photographs….all the art has been done for her.

  3. Anyone who does morphs on Flickr is stealing. People making excuses for them need to wake the fck up.

Jessika Nikita says in her SL profile that she charges 3k for headshots
She never credits the original photographer or pic
If people link to the original pic in her comments she deletes them
If you want proof she’s not using stock pics or ones that are licensed on Deviantart, here goes………

It takes no talent but a lot of fcking nerve to browse Pinterest and Weheartit for pics, then charge ppl for the privelage of having their SL face morphed in an iphone app with a stolen image. Maybe the dumbasses willing to pay 3k for this bullshit deserve to be ripped off.

  5. Ok I’m no expert in this but many of the artists over on the Deviant Art are happy for their pictures to be used by other artists and actually offer them up as stock, their only request is that they are credited for the image and linked back to and that’s exactly what this guys is doing so he doesn’t seem to be stealing.
Many SL artists use stock images in their creations so I don’t see what harm he’s doing and I’d say to anyone that if they dislike morphs then there’s an easy solution – unfollow and then you only see what you choose to!

    • This would be a valid argument if he was using stock backgrounds or stock abstracts..rarely is a full digital painting a “stock photo.” In fact, many of these artworks he is using are bought and paid for by customers of the original artist. Unless the artist explicitly says that the photo can be used for other purposes, it is safe to assume it is -not- okay. At this point even putting in the description who the original artist does not remedy the situation. I don’t know why people think it is okay to take something bought and paid for and stealing it and then profiting from it. Put yourself in these artists shoes. You take commissions for a living and you will spend days on an original digital artwork for a paying customer — made especially for them. Now someone else comes along, takes that artwork, slaps a new face on it, erases your signature and re-sells it for money. You think this is not stealing? Both the customer whom that art was intended for and the artist both feel wronged in these cases.

    • I beg to differ! There is a big difference between Stock and Art on DeviantART and that being the category they are in. If it’s in Stock, then it’s fine but most of these are categorized in the style of art that they are… which is NOT part of the Stock section and therefor not stock! Plus most of these are completed artworks and those are generally not valued as stock.

    • I had my work stolen off Flickr and DA as well as my personal portfolio website and some marketplaces for 3d assets, that included photographs, 3d models, renders and drawings. Some were used to make money in SL some to sell products in RL etc. I can tell you I do not feel happy and or blessed when people use my work. Even with crediting me I will file a DMCA as soon as I find unauthorized uses. Subsequently, I no longer put up anything without huge watermarks in several places. It takes very little talent to morph a picture. On average if I use my own photographs to blend some SL into them I work 10 to 20 minutes on it max, anyone with photoshop and a little patience can do it and get acceptable results. Want to use the stuff someone else put up? Buy the rights to do so if you can not obtain those rights don’t use another person’s stuff. At the very least ask if the answer is no.. move along do not use it.
